I remember when I was practically immobile from my chronic back pain. I was pushing 180 pounds and wearing a size 16 pants. Getting out of bed was becoming difficult. Walking was a chore. Many months of suffering, lots of negative thinking and plenty of self pity. There, got a mental picture of that??
Many things happened that lead me to getting off my ass and start taking care of my body. One of the very first things is a book I received from my sister, PrincessFaith. It is called Back Pain Relief The Ultimate Guide More than 100 physical and mental means of pain relief. It was this book, which I reluctantly started reading, that got me thinking. Positive thinking that is. A quote in the book by a Doctor named Sternbach says “chronic pain is a syndrome composed of a number of physical, emotional and behavioral changes which can convert otherwise healthy persons into invalids.”
While reading the book, I began to take control of my pain. Incorporating in my daily life positive visualization and affirmations, breathing exercises, core stability exercises, yoga, meditation, humor and proper form. Then natural health, preventive care, and all things I considered good for my well being.
It took many weeks before I started showing improvement, however I remember on several occasions when I gathered everyone in the house and made them watch me do something that I haven’t done in so long! Like that time I made Faith, Eban and Pat come in the living room and watch me lay on my back and lift both legs up until I was a 90% angle! What an accomplishment that was!
Monday morning, I took that book off the shelf and went outside to read. I set my surroundings as well as I could and I sat and read for about 2 hours. This book is truly reminding me of where I want to be as far as living with a healthy back. I do not have to live with back pain. My back is getting stronger each day.

If you suffer from Back Pain, I do suggest this book. You can buy it new or used here at half.com It gets you thinking in a positive way. Change the way you think and react to your pain. You may eliminate or drastically reduce your pain!

All right Angel!! You can do it! :thumbup_tb: I’m a firm believer in positive energy and thinking. I do not like to be around people that are negative. They repulse me..(that’s a pun there… :smile1_tb: ). Congratulations on stepping up and I hope you feel better. I’m sure you’ll do great.

Faith Thank you! I read some more last night in bed. It was not as rewarding as reading outside surrounded in my little paradise. But it was nice reading it.. I am at part where it is giving you many breathing exercise ideas along with affirmations. I am really happy you are liking the site design, I want to surround the place with happy goodness….
Darlene Thank you! That beach towel if huge! It really is my little paradise, even though I can hear traffic here and there, soon I will be able to block it out completely when I decide to meditate or do some breathing exercises outside. Do you still have that book I lent you a long time ago – Happiness is a choice? I lent it to you or mom… It is a little red book and I am searching for it. Let me know if you have it OK? oh and if you look in the picture closely, not only do I have coffee and my book, but I have a round container of hemp foot lotion! Happy smooth feet makes me happy!
GordonThank you! Things do feel to be falling into place now. I am realizing that I am not on vacation and I actually live here. I am stepping up in a big way and the positive energy is starting to flow around me without any effort. Reading my book is helping me remember how much pain I was in and I do not want to ever go down that road again.

Angel,
Extremely well said and very true…I am always wishing more of my patients with chronic pain would consider the emotional/mental stressors and psychosocial ramifications of their lives on their bodies and minds. I think it is a bigger part than biomechanical injury itself.
keep up the great writing
